Dr. Neal Eberhardt (Ralph Macchio), once a brilliant prodigy, now struggles with disillusionment as he researches brain-damaged and comatose patients to uncover how the brain adapts. Even with his groundbreaking device, the Neural Intercortex Stimulation Array (NISA), he finds himself at a standstill. To complicate things further, his trusted assistant Vince Carter has just resigned. However, everything changes when Neal unexpectedly makes a significant discovery.
