Ben travels to the remote wilds of northern Queensland to visit Bette, a tough, no-nonsense elderly woman living alone in a dilapidated house. She flatly refuses to make him dinner, but as the days pass, she gradually opens up. She recounts what first drew her to this unforgiving landscape three decades ago, shares the tangled history of her relationships with men, and confesses the serious threats she’s faced while fighting to protect her land from developers.
