In the second part of our series highlighting fantastic spring getaways near Tokyo, we explore the Boso Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture, featuring a local train and beautiful blooms. The Isumi Railway connects the coastal town of Isumi to the historic castle town of Otaki. Though it's just a 90-minute drive or bus ride from central Tokyo, the 30-kilometer railway journey reveals a tranquil rural landscape adorned with cherry blossoms and vibrant nanohana rape blossoms in spring. The nostalgic yellow train cars, reminiscent of the post-War era, are particularly popular among visitors, including young female railway enthusiasts. Each of the 14 stations exudes a charming retro vibe. In this episode of Journeys in Japan, our traveler is Mari Khunoian, an Armenian writer and model with a background in Japanese studies from Moscow State University. A passionate railway fan, she occasionally writes for a Russian railway journal.
