Choosing to forgo the power of the ring, Clark opts not to take his father's life. He and the freed Lex return to Smallville, where Clark faces off against crime boss Morgan Edge, who has tracked him down. Meanwhile, Lex is on a quest to uncover the identity of his would-be assassin, torn between suspecting his father, Lionel, or his fiancée, Helen.
