While a robbery unfolds, Doc Goodfellow is inadvertently shot by the Hewitt gang. Doc Holliday insists that only a skilled surgeon can extract the bullet. The nearest qualified doctor is Dr. Mason, who has turned into a prospector. Earp discovers that Mason is currently obsessed with the allure of gold.
