Episode Overview

1915. On the Eastern Front, Michael faces an impossible decision, while across the trenches, Tommy’s unit tests a risky new weapon. Thrown into the chaos of battle, Tommy gets an unexpected hand while gathering the wounded. Meanwhile, Michael’s squad is ambushed by Russian soldiers, forcing them into brutal close-quarters combat. Returning home on leave, he marries Katie in a moment of joy, but struggles to reconcile his past life with the horrors he’s witnessed. Back on the Western Front, Tommy is badly wounded and recovers in an army hospital, where he grows fond of x-ray assistant Joanna.
