Theory of Achievement (1991)
Plot
A group of aimless Brooklyn friends—young, white, college-educated, and perpetually broke—spend their days drinking away their ambitions. They dream of making something meaningful of their lives, but rent always looms first, and their grand plans often dissolve into haze. This short, paired with Hartley's *Surviving Desire*, tenderly captures their chaotic, bittersweet limbo: too smart to settle, too broke to rise, and too drunk to care—for now.
