Plot
The residents of Villar del Río, a tiny Spanish village, buzz with excitement over an impending visit from American diplomats. Their local leaders scramble to make a stellar impression, hoping to secure Marshall Plan aid. To showcase a version of Spain they think the foreigners expect, the townspeople abandon their Castilian ways, dressing in unfamiliar Andalusian attire, bringing in a famous flamenco dancer, and transforming their entire town's aesthetic. As they wait, the uncertainty of the Americans' arrival hangs over their elaborate preparations.
