On the Impossibility of an Homage (2024)
Plot
A portrait captures a truth, but whose? Ion once ruled the ballet world as a star in Communist Romania. The idea of being immortalized on film thrilled him—he’d long imagined his story told. Yet as the cameras rolled, the reality of surrendering his narrative proved difficult. Ion clings to the version of himself he wants seen, resisting the lens that seeks to redefine him. The painter and the subject wage a quiet war over the image, and the final picture may belong to neither.
