Plot

Troubled teen Owen Whitmore grapples with a sleep disorder that sends him into unsettling nighttime wanderings. His therapy sessions with Dr. Katherine Ramos offer little relief as he juggles starting medical school in another town and his lingering feelings for sweetheart Maggie, while parents Leona and Walter watch him with growing alarm. When Owen's nightmares turn violent, Ramos seeks guidance from sleep specialist Dr. Jonas Julian. Meanwhile, protests swell outside Townsend State Prison, where notorious serial killer Dr. Eugene "Mean Gene" Branch awaits execution. Then missing Marcia Freeman turns up dead—murdered exactly as Owen dreamed it, staged like one of Branch's crimes.
